GEO. NEUERBURG KILLED AS CAR HITS TRAILER LOADED WITH CORN
The first highway traffic fatality in Carroll County was recorded at 2:15 p.m. Monday when George Joseph Neuerburg, 58, Carroll, was killed in an accident south of Templeton on Highway 141-71.
A station wagaon driven by Neuerburg rammed into the rear of a farm wagon loaded with shelled corn about three-quarters of a mile east of the Highway 236 junction with Highways 141 and 71. The farm wagon was pulled by a tractor driven by Alden Steffes, 20, Templeton, who was not injured.
Mr. Neuerburg suffered chest and head injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Carroll County Medical Examiner Dr. Roland B. Morrison, Carroll. A ruling of accidental death was made by Dr. Morrison.
The farm tractor and wagon and the station wagon were eastbound on Highway 141 at the time of the accident. The impact knocked the farm wagon into a ditch on the southside of the highway. Both the farm tractor and the station wagon came to a stop of the south shoulder of the highway.
The accident was investigated by Deputy Sheriff Roger O'Tool, Carroll; and Highway Patrolmen Ed Swain, Audubon, Larry Long, Carroll, and Kenneth Bolz, Jefferson.
Requiem mass for Mr. Neuerburg will be celebrated at 11AM Thursday (April 16, 1970) in Holy Spirit Church. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Neuerburg was a life long Carroll resident. He was a son of Henry and Mary (Wilkens) Neuerburg. He attended SS Peter and Paul School.
George married Ann Balukoff May 9, 1933 at SS Peter and Paul Church in Carroll.
He operated Neuerburg Dairy Sweet on Highway 71 South in Carroll and was an agent for Lincoln Casualty and Life Insurance Company.
The couple were parents of eight children, JoAnn, Robert, Glenn, Ronald, Mary Jane, Darlene, John and James.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: May 12 2022, 6:25:55 UTC
