About George F O’Dea
George F. O’Dea, 47, died Sunday morning January 24, at the family home in Opportunity following an illness of six months. Mr. O’Dea came here from Sand Spring two years ago. He was a member of St. Peter’s church.
During his short residence here he earned scores of friends who mourn his passing.
Mr. O’Dea is survived by his widow, Mrs. Anna O’Dea; five sons, George, John, Francis, Antone and Paul; his mother, Mrs. Jan Waldorf, all of Opportunity; one sister, Mrs. Loretta Tucant of Sand Spring, and a brother, W.T. O’Dea of Anaconda.
The body was removed from the Merrill mortuary to the home of his brother, W.T. O’Dea, 809 Birch Street, Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services began Thursday morning, the cortege traveling from there to St. Peter’s church where requiem high mass was celebrated at 9 o’clock. The Rev. Father Emmett Shea officiated.
Members of St. Peter’s choir sang the responses to the mass and during the services sang “Abide With Me.” Mrs. Mary Laslovich Puccinelli sang “O Paradise.”
The pallbearers were Patrick Boyle, Con O’Donnell, John O’Donnell, Anthon Cashman, Thomas O’Dea and Joe Thompson.
Interment followed in Mount Olivet cemetery.
