George O'Hanlon, a famous actor and radio personality, known to the older generation as Joe McDoakes and to the younger generation as the voice of George Jetson on the Jetsons TV series.
George Samuel O'Hanlon was born on November 23, 1912 in Brooklyn, New York, USA. As an actor and writer he is known for The Jetsons (1962), Rocky (1976) and The Flintstones (1960).
He died of a second stroke on February 11, 1989 while recording dialogue for Jetsons: The Movie. According to voice director Andrea Romano, O'Hanlon found it difficult to read and hear and in the end he died in the recording studio doing what he loved.
The film was dedicated to him, along with Jetsons co-star Mel Blanc, who died later the same year.

As with most Hanna-Barbera productions of the 1950s and early 1960s, was modeled after a contemporary celebrity; in George's case, it was character actor George O'Hanlon, who also voiced (and granted his name to) the character.
