About George Clem Oakes
Clem moved to Smiths Grove with his Mother and his two living brothers. Clem was a contact Mail Carrier between the Post Office and the L&N Railroad. He hung the mail for both North and South bound trains that did not stop. He also met the trains that stopped and exchanged both out going and incoming mail at the depot.
He owned a small farm and raised tobacco, corn, wheat, hay and some small farm animals.
