George Phillips was born on 21 April 1816 in London, England He was christened in St Bartholomew The Great, Smithfield, London, England on 13 April 1817 He was the son of George Phillips and Ann Ladson (as per birth record that I have) and the brother of James. He was a few days short of his 4th birthday when he arrived with the 1820 settlers.

Queenstown Free Press - Friday, September 28, 1883 DIED,- At Fort Warden, Komgha, on the 20th September ,1883, George PHILLIPS, aged 67 years and 5 months leaving a family of ten children to mourn his loss.- Friends and Relatives kindly accept this notice.

George Phillips died 20 September 1883 on Farm 130, Komga, Eastern Cape, South Africa He is buried in Komga Anglican Church cemetery, Komga, South Africa. His gravestone says he was 67 years 5 months when he died, which links the grave to the George Phillips, brother of James, and son of George Phillips and Ann Ladson. This date does not match the George Phillips that was the son of Thomas and Alice Phillips.
