  • Of Stonington, New London, Connecticut, from the records:
  • Son of John Plumbe and Elizabeth Green of New London; removed to Stonington before marriage; married, lived, and died while residing there. He was a ship-owner and a ship-master, sailing to the West Indies, and also traded along our coast.
  • He was once fined in Barbadoes, Dec. 17, 1715, for coming there from New London without his clearence papers signed by the collector. There was no "collector of the port" of New London at that time, which was certified by the Governor of Connecticut, to the Governor, Colonel Lowther, of Barbadoes.
  • George and his wife joined the church March 12, 1710.
  • According to descendants, George was shipwrecked and killed on Plumb Island in New York. He was a sea captain and "ship's master." His descendants of this day call him an Englishman. He was alive in 1719, as on April 23 the Governor and council order him to take certain measures at his sloop where they had smallpox on board.

  • Joshua Hempstead, the New London Diarist, records for 29 Jul 1723: "Rain a very great Storm. the aples are most of them blowed down." On 3 Oct he writes: "...PETER MANWARING, GEORGE PLUMBE, JOHN CHRISTOPHERS, & YOUNG GORTON CAME PASSENGERS IN THE RHOAD ISLAND SLOOP YT WAS CAST AWAY ATT MONTOKETT, IN YT GR STORM IN THE LATTER END OF JULY. ALL YE MEN WERE LOST..."
