George Willard Reed was editor and proprietor of the Advertiser, of Plymouth. At the age of seventeen years he entered upon a apprenticeship in a printing office. He soon mastered the business and was employed for several years on the Attica Journal. Following Horace Greeley's advice to young men, to go west and grow up with the country, he made his way to Pierre, SD, where he was employed on the Daily Signal for three years. In 1885 he came to Plytmouth and began work on the paper which he now owns. He was united in marriage on the 12th of May, 1886, to Miss Rosa L. Derringer of Plymouth. They have three children, Evan P., Amy E. and Kenneth M.
