George Risner Bio

George Risner is the son of James and Margaret "Peggy" Adams and the grandson of Michael and Sarah Howard Risner. George was born in 1844 probably near this cemetery.

He joined as a Private the Union 14th KY INF on 27 Feb 1862 [along with his brothers Michael, Wilson, Francis "Frank" and Meredith]. He was listed as "deserted" on 8 Dec 1862 and rejoined his unit on 28 Apr 1863. He was tried by Court Martial, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 3 months hard labor and forfeit 7 months pay. He served his sentence, desertion was commuted, he rejoined his unit and was honorably discharged 15 Sep 1865.

George Risner married Mary Beth Leath on 10 Aug 1865. She is the daughter of David P. Leath and Amanda Hamilton. They had 10 known children. Mary died 19 Feb 1887 [probably due to childbirth]. George married Amanda Baker [her first] on 11 Jan 1892. George Risner died 21 Jan 1902 and was buried beside Mary. Amanda Baker Risner married the widower George Williams 17 Jan 1912 and is buried beside him in Floyd Co. KY.
