https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/133636874/george-ruble
George Ruble (also spelled Rubel) was born circa 1729 in Bucks County, Colony of Pennsylvania, where he spent his early years. He married Jane Elizabeth Pugh prior to 1750 in the colony of Pennsylvania.
In 1755-1756, George Ruble served in the French and Indian War, in Captain Jeremiah Smith's Company of the Frederick County Militia (List of Officers of Frederick County Militia in 1756).
On July 1, 1763, George purchased 120-150 acres from his father-in-law (Jesse Pugh) on both sides of Back Creek near present-day Gainesboro, Virginia. The land was part of Jesse Pugh's father's (Job Pugh) original land grant----land granted to him by Lord Fairfax. Gainesboro was originally called Pugh Town, and was abouth 10 miles from Winchester. According to T. K. Vatmell's Shenandoah Valley Pioneers and Their Descendants: A Brief History of Frederick County, Virginia, 1738-1908, Berryville, Virginia, 1963, page 23, "...On about 1770, it was founded by Job Pugh (father of Jesse Pugh) when a nucleus of a village was formed near the old Quaker meeting house, then called a branchof Hopewell. George Rubel of Frederick County and Jesse Pugh of Winchester were appointed Trustees. The houses were required to be not less than 16 feet square with brick and stone chimneys....It became oneofthe voting places many years ago, and politics waxed warm in those days. Old Whigs and Democrats had many drawn battles. In that day the rum counter played a strong part in local politics....quiet elections are now held. The interest has subsided with the rum."
In the 1770's George Ruble (also spelled Rubel) served as a soldier in the Revolutionary War in Captain Conrad Humble's companty from Augusta County, Virginia, according to John H. Gwathmey's Historical Register of Virginians in the Revolution, page 68 (published 1996).
In 1776, Jane Elizabeth Pugh Ruble "neglected attending Meetings and showed unbecoming disposition in railing against Friends (Quakers)", according to Hopewell Friends History 1734-1934, Frederick County, Virginia. In 1778, Jane Elizabeth Pugh Ruble was disowned by Friends (Quakers) because of disunity.
George Ruble left Frederick County, Virginia somewhere aroung 1804, and moved to Ohio. A document entitled, "Sales of George Rubel 1807" is preserved among records of Fairfield County, Ohio, which suggest he was living there at that time.
