The "Manor Plantation"
Posted by Cindy Payne
George's father, Thomas, left him the "manor plantation" on which Thomas lived in Culpeper County, Virginia. This land lies north of the Rapidan River, east of both Elk Run and present day U.S. Highway 29. It was 599 acres when Thomas bought it from his brother, John, in 1739. George actually took possession of this land in 1788, upon the death of his mother, Elizabeth, to whom it had been "lent" by his father for the remainder of her life.
