George Russell emigrated from Virginia to Kentucky in 1795, via E. Tenn. In Spring of 1816 they moved to Orange Co., IN. In 1825 they settled about 7 miles west of Salem in Washington Co., IN. In 1828 they settled in Brown Township, where they resided to their demise. He was listed as Head of family, in Warren Co., KY, 1810; he and wife age 16-25; one son age under 10. No slaves. Also William (c.1764) Russell listed on same page. [Census, p. 275]. See George (c1766) Russell for additional records. Two men of this name recorded in Warren Co. In 1815 their son William was born near Bowling Green, KY. George served in the War of 1812. His father and his father-in-law both served in the Revolutionary War. His wife was Letitia Lindsay. C (1837-1841), p. 34; In Vacation of the Washington Probate Court, State of Indiana, on Mar. 6, 1838, William Russell was appointed administrator of the estate of George Russell, late of said county deceased. Pages 67-68, ibid. The personal estate of George Russell, dec'd is insufficient to pay his debts. Real estate is to be sold, which consists of 67 3/4 acres, part of the SW quarter of the SE quarter of Sec. 7-town 3 North, Range 2 East, and part of the SE/SW/Section & 3N.2 East. It is therefore ordered that the following heirs of the said decedent be summoned to appear in this court on the first day of the next Term of Court:

Page 153, Probate Book "A" 1831-1842, May Term 1839, names the same heirs, and says "Children and heirs of George Russell, deceased". Page 89, Probate Minute Book "C". Real estate valued at $198.48 3/4 cents by Elijah Driskill and John Teague. P. 112, ibid. George Russell, Jr. became the purchaser of the land. It was sold to him for $157 on Nov. 11, 1839.

George Russell (1787-1838) and Luticia K. Lindsey (1793-1863) came from Virginia to Kentucky, and on into Indiana in 1816, first settling in Orange County. In 1825 they moved to Brown Township about 5 miles north of Campbellsburg on what is known as Russell's Lane. He died Feb. 12, 1838 at age 50 yrs, 2 mos and 13 days."
