About George Ruthven
GEORGE RUTHVEN
George Ruthven is the son of Patrick, third Lord Ruthven. He and twenty-five other, including the Regent Lennox, were killed near Stirling on 4 September 1571. The Scots Peerage IV: 262 Historie of King James the Sext: 92
Susan Lynne Schwenger says: It appears the only George Ruthven at this general time died in 1571. However in an introduction to Muses Threnodie written by James Cant. there's a reference to a 92 year old George Ruthven who is in fact a subject of the poem which was published in 1638. The math works out if the George Ruthven born in 1544 or 1545 was the subject of Muses Threnodie.
