George Sharpes' full name may have been George W. Sharpes as shown on the death certificate for his son William Jesse Sharpes. He was likely born in that part of Monongalia County VA, which became Preston County WV. He was the son of Jesse and Sarah Neptune Sharps (aka Sharpless) of Taylor County WV.

George Sharpes married Priscilla M. Zinn on 29 APR 1829. They raised their family of 15 children in Taylor County WV, then moved in 1864 to Calhoun County WV, where they died. Their place of burial is unknown, but was likely on their farm at Sycamore, Calhoun County WV.
