George was the son of Barton Smoot, Jr. (1711-1760) and Susannah Mackall Clarke (d. 1751).
George married Sarah (Alexander) Fendall (1733-1778) on February 8, 1765. Sarah was the widow of John Fendall (1730-1763). Sarah and George Smoot had the following children:

3. John Alexander Smoot (1769-1827), Charles Co., MD. d. Jefferson Co., KY. John served in the Revolutionary War, as a Private in Capt Benjamin Cawood’s Company of the Charles County Militia. m. Abigail Hunter Tabbs, daughter of Moses Tabbs (1719-1777) and Eleanor Smoot (ca. 1737).
4. George Clarke Smoot II (1770-1844), Charles Co., MD. m. Matilda ? (1776-1844).
