About George Stoney
Presumably the George Stoney, born about 1816, who was recorded in the 1821 census as a lodger in the townland of Brachmore, parish of Seirkieran.
George Stoney had an inn or public house in Templemore in 1846 and was also a collector of taxes - Slater’s National Commercial Directory of Ireland.
George Stoney, 33, buried in Drom R.C. graveyard, 15 Dec. 1848, "erected by Marta Stoney - his wife" - Gravestone Inscription Record at rootsireland.ie. Because the age is appropriate, Marta is close to Maria, Drom is close to Templemore where George had an inn and to Borrisoleigh where George and Maria were married, and George seems to have been dead by 1870 when his daughter Margaret died as a hotelkeeper, this seems likely to be this George. This is confirmed by the probate of a will: George Stoney, shopkeeper, Templemore, Co. Tippy., 1850 - Index to Prerogative Wills, 1811-1858.
George Stony is in Griffith's Valuation, 1850, at 30 George's-street, Kiltillane, Templemore, as renting a house, offices, and yard, valuation £15 4s., from Tobias Wellington, Esq.
