About George Robert Strakosch
His first home was at his maternal grandmother's residence in Manhattan, it is there that he found his love for vertical transportation when he as a small boy climbed into the dumbwaiter lost muscle strength needed to operate it and plummeted to the downstairs neighbors. The family moved out to Whitestone where he and his brother's continued to try their mother's patience. He and his older brother Frank where part of the Whitestone and New York City Firefighters. The two brothers also served their country in the Armed Forces, George was an MP down in Panama. He attended college at Drexel in Philadelphia where he met Ada who was studying Nutrition. George started working as an elevator technician. George and Ada were married in 1951. Their first home together was in Bayside Queens, later moving to a house in Alberston. The couple both furthered their college degrees. George did very well in his career, one of the top personnel at the Otis elevator Company in New York, he raised him self to the level of expert proficiency, writing and editing several editions of the Vertical Transportation guide. After the passing of Charlotte in 1969, George remarried in 1970, Margaret Cox of the Bronx; who was also employed by the Otis elevator company.
