George Overton - About 1895 or 1896, George Overton bought what is now called the James Hurst place. He lived there, where his family was born until 1918. At that time, he moved his family to the place one mile west and 3/4 mile north of Vinson. There his youngest son, Russell, still lives.
His wife was the former Julia Worthen. They had seven children; Mrs. Eunice Reynolds, who still lives at Vinson; Mrs. Verna Williams of Socorro, New Mexico; Mrs. Velma Hiett of Vinson; Horace "Bud" of Vinson; Edgar, deceased; Forrest of Vinson and Russell of Vinson.
Mrs. Overton died at the early age of 34, leaving George with seven children. Eunice quit school to take over the household duties and care for the small children. In about a year, she married Wilson Reynolds.
All during the depression years, George Overton was Harmon County Commissioner of the North District. He served in this capacity until his death in July, 1938. He also farmed and raised cattle.
