George Albert West was the son of Samuel Walker West, a LDS polygamist from Tennessee, and his plural wife, Christiana Johansen, an immigrant from Denmark who arrived in America in 1857. Sadly, his father died when George was only about 3 years old. In the 1880 census for Washington, Utah, George, 10, was living with his widowed mother, Christiana, 52, and older siblings, Isaac Walker West, 21, Christena, 15, and Hannah, 12. His mother was working as a carpet weaver, his older brother as a farm laborer, and his older sister, Christena, as a worker in a factory.
In 1900, George, 29, was living in Washington, Utah, with his mother, Christiana, 72, and he was working as a minister. His older brother, Isaac, 41, was living next door with his wife, Louvisa, 24, and two of her children from a previous marriage, Nancy Evidean Shurtz, 7, and Francis Leroy Shurtz, 2 years old.
By the 1910 census George was 40 years old and living in a lodging house in Ely, White Pine, Nevada, along with 9 other men and the husband and wife who were running the home. All the people living there were from various parts of the world including the USA, Canada, Germany, and Norway. The owner was from Ohio and his wife from Canada. All of the men were single except for one who was divorced. They ranged in ages from 30 to 61 years old, and had occupations including tailor, bartender, carpenter (3 of them), laborer, miner, gambler, and cook.
On December 22, 1910, George married Annie Crampton in Salt Lake City, Utah, and they had two children, Edwin Lanta and Edith Louise, but sadly George passed away at the young age of 45 on August 20, 1915, after being kicked in the head by a horse. George was buried in the Enterprise City Cemetery.
Annie Crampton West, the daughter of Joshua Crampton and Ann Emsley, had immigrated from England in 1906. She remarried in 1916 to James Edwin Hall, whose first wife had died in 1915 as well. In 1920 they were living in Washington, Utah, and were listed as follows in the census: James E., 53, Annie C., 40, Edwin West, 7, and Edith West, 5 years old. James was working as a carpenter.
By 1930 they had moved to Los Angeles, California, and were living at 11572 Santa Monica Boulevard, James was still working as a carpenter, Annie as a nurse, Edwin as a laborer in a mine, and Edith as a waitress for the military. But by 1940 James and Annie had moved back to Washington, Utah. James was 73 and Annie was 60 years old. Annie passed away just 4 years later on June 7, 1944, in Provo, Utah, and was buried in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. James passed away three years later on June 18, 1947, in Provo, and was buried in the Winsor Memorial Cemetery in Enterprise, Utah, with his first wife. James and Annie had no children, but James had at least 3 children with his first wife, Lucinda Maria Foy.
