George Lord de Schweinitz, Jr., age 93, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, died peacefully in his sleep at Presbyterian Hospital on May 13th 2017. George and his younger brother Richard, were born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, the sons of Dr. George Lord de Schweinitz, Sr., from Bethlehem and Dorothy Mae Bradshaw of England. George attended the Moravian Preparatory School in Bethlehem, Phillips Exeter Academy for one year and graduated from the Morristown Beard School in Morristown, New Jersey. He received his BA degree from Haverford College, Class of 1945, and his MA degree from Middlebury College in 1967.

George served in the US Army from 1943–1946. Following the end of WWII, he was on Detached Service for study in Paris when he opted to leave the Army following three years of service and remain in Paris as a civilian for the remainder of the academic year.

After graduating from Haverford College, George worked for several years at in the Bethlehem Steel Company. Once he received his MA, he began a twenty-eight year career in secondary French language education at the Moravian Female Academy in Bethlehem, the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut, and for many years at Eastern Senior High School in Washington, D.C.

Following his retirement George moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, his mother's adopted home, and bought his first house. He had many friends and enjoyed visits with his brother and sister- in-law, his nieces and nephews and their families. George traveled to explore, learn, and visit relatives in England, France, Germany and Poland. He traveled like a native wherever he went, communicating in the local languages, driving through remote areas, always making friends along the way. His favorite relaxing summer vacation area was near Belfast, Maine where his parents had owned a farm and where he still had many friends.
