Mr. Laffen was born May 5, 1943 in Edgeley, N.D., the son of Fred and Mary (Burnett) Laffen. He grew up and attended school in Edgeley. He studied wildlife biology at Dakota College, Bottineau, N.D. He completed his education at Utah State University, Logan, Utah.
He began working as a truck driver for Mayo Construction, Cavalier, N.D., in 1967. He married Dolores Raya-Hagman on Dec. 10, 1977, in Wibaux, Mont. He later worked as a transport driver. They moved to Lankin in 2001. He retired as a roller operator in 2009.
He is survived by his wife; four stepsons, Anthony (Dawn) Hagman, Yuma, Ariz., Dustin Hagman, Fargo, N.D., and Michael (Monica) Hagman and Jacques Hagman, both Helena, Mont.; a brother, Delbert (Ruby), Wimbledon, N.D.; a sister, Mary (Charlie) Podoll, Lamoure, N.D.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
