Gerald, (51) a Nelson Mandela Bay father was killed in cold-blood in front of his five-year-old son when he was attacked on his smallholding in St. Albans by four armed men.
According to a neighbor, the incident occurred about 8:10 p.m. Wait and his friend, Mr. Boetie Barnard, were apparently standing next to his house when four men approached them and asked for work.
"Gerald (Wait) told them he didn't have work for them and asked why they didn't knock on the front door like decent people did, "said Wait's neighbor, Ms. Cecilia van der Kuil. Afterwards, one of the suspects apparently pulled out his firearm, apparently a revolver, and shot Wait twice in the stomach.
Barnard apparently tried to chase Wait's attackers with a jack, which was lying close to him, One of the men then stabbed Barnard in the shoulder with a knife. According to Van der Kuil, Wait's five-year-old son, was sitting on a staircase outside the house, watching everything. After the shots were fired, Wait's girlfriend and the child's mother, Olivia Sauls (28), apparently grabbed her son and dragged him into the house.
Van der Kuil thinks she didn't think soberly at that moment and immediately started walking to Wait's home. "I knew he needed help and I didn't think of the danger. "Before arriving at Wait's house, she spotted the suspects. "They walked across the road as if nothing had happened and disappeared into the bushes. One of them stared intently into my eyes, as if to tell me it has nothing to do with me. "
Van der Kuil apparently looked at them closely and saw one had a patch over his nose and another had a chevron mark on his face. Two apparently had firearms. According to Van der Kuil, her husband, Mr. Johan van der Kuil loaded Wait in his bakkie and rushed him to Livingstone Hospital. Wait was already dead when they arrived at the hospital.
Capt. Police spokesperson Johan Rheeder confirmed the incident
