About Gerd Rothschild
Gerd Rothschild ( It. By Gerd of Rothschild ; Hebrew. גרד רוטשילד ; 1919 - 1991 ) - an Israeli graphic artist. Born in 1919 in Berlin, ie, in 1933 with her mother she came to Palestine.
Biography [ edit | edit the wiki text ] From 1935 to 1939 he studied at Jerusalem's Bezalel Academy of Arts . In 1942 he volunteered in the British armed forces. He began his service as a cook in the officers' hotel. When the command has found his artistic talent, he was transferred to the division NAAFI (Navy, Army, Air Force Institute ). Prior to demobilization in 1946, it was his duty to paint the walls of officers and soldiers' clubs on the bases of the British armed forces in the Middle East.
In 1948, after the formation of the State of Israel, he volunteered in the Israel Defense Forces, participated in the battles for the breakthrough Burma Road to Jerusalem. When the competition was announced on the Emblem of Israel , sent to the Commission a sketch of which was taken as the main element of the emblem - the menorah .
In 1950-1970 years, together with a friend and companion Lipman organized studio and graphic design "Roles" (Rothschild-Lippmann).
In the 1980s, he engaged in charity work, painted the walls of the children's wards of hospitals in Israel. He died in 1991.
