Gert Perus Grobler (1956 - 1998)

Brief overview:

Gert (41), and his fiancé’s daughter, Engela Emmarentia Smit (15), were hacked to death with an axe when attacked by two youths on Plot 270, Ruvel Road, De Deur, Vaal Triangle, on 16th February 1998.

Farm manager Jacon Tsotsi was preparing to feed Grobler’s chickens when he heard the dogs barking near the staff quarters. “I went over and slowly pushed the door open. The sight in front of me was shocking.

Mr Grobler was lying sprawled on the floor, with blood on his face and on the floor.” He went to a neighbour, Mr Jan Basson, to call the police. While they waited, Basson went to check in the main house. He went to Engela’s room. Blood was spattered all over the walls and floor. He pulled the covers from the bed and saw Engela’s battered body.
