Gert Burger (1953 - 2019)

Brief overview:

Gert (65), was attacked in his Kroonstad garage on February 23rd 2019, and stabbed to death with a sharp object.

2 days before the murder of Burger, his gardener had found a strange man in his yard. The man jumped out of the the garden over a wall. They found a knife, a screwdriver and a piece of plastic sail in the garage. Burger's body was later tied up in the sail.

  • Rakaki, one of the suspects in the case and the son of a local police officer was unexpectedly released on bail.The NPA has so far been unable to give the media or state substantiated reasons why he was granted bail.
  • Linette Erasmus, Burger's daughter, says it is a huge shock to the family that one suspect was granted bail in very strange circumstances and that the case was abruptly dropped from the role.
  • The Burger family and their legal representative, FC Schilling, were stunned by the sudden turnaround and awaiting answers from the national prosecuting authority (NPA)
