Last Rites Held December 14 for Gertrude Travis

Funeral services for Mrs. Earl (Gertrude) Travis, 88, of Clarinda, held December 14 at Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda, were conducted by Elder John R. Topham. Mrs. Travis died December 11, 1973 in the Municipal Hospital in Clarinda. Interment was at Dallas Center Cemetery, New Market.

Gertrude Alice Novinger was born April 25, 1885, at Belleville, Kansas. She was the second daughter of Franklin P. [ierce] and Ora Belle [Towne] Novinger, and her early life was spent in Fremont County.

She was married to Earl C. [uster] Travis on March 29, 1906, at Hamburg, Iowa, and one daughter and three sons were born to them.

During most of their early marriage, Gert and Earl lived at New Market, Iowa. In 1931, they moved to Clarinda.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Earl, her daughter, Leta [Irene] Mankle, her parents, a sister, Juliet O'Brien, and four brothers, Roy, Cliff, Fred and Wilbur Novinger.

She is survived by her sons, Merle of Bedford and [Earl] Duane and Kenneth [Rex], both of Clarinda; a sister, Mildred Ballinger, of Hamburg, Iowa; four grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
