Gideon was the son of Joseph & his first wife and mother of all his children, Abigail (Scott) Bingham .
Gideon's parents were married Dec. 14, 1710, and his mother died March 30, 1741.
The children, all born in Windham, CT, included: Lydia - b. Feb 9, 1712 GIDEON - b. July 3, 1714 Abigail - b. Nov 2, 1716 Elijah - b. Jan 1, 1719 Joseph - b. Aug 10, 1721
Gideon lived with his parents and grandparents on the original family homestead in Windham which his grandfather,Thomas had deeded to Gideon's father, Joseph.
When Gideon was 20 years old, he married Mary (Carey), about 16, and daughter of Eleazar & _?_ Carey. Gideon and Mary were the parents of twelve children. Five died as infants or toddlers *, including twins who were the last born.
Children of Gideon and Mary (Carey) Bingham: Gideon, William, Eliphalet, Thomas, Elias *, Mary, James *, Anna *, Anna, John, Carey *, & Waldo *. Mary died in 1758, two weeks after her twin sons.
On November 12, 1761 in Canterbury, CT, Gideon, age 47, married wife #2, Abigail (Baker) age 26, daughter of Tryall & Elizabeth (Tibbetts) Baker.
The children of Gideon & Abigail (Baker) Bingham: Samuel - b. Sep 1762 Johnson - b. Mar 1765 Alice - b. Jul 22, 1767 Joseph - b. Nov 1771 ELISHA - b. Jan 31, 1778
Gideon was active in Windham town affairs. He served as fence viewer and surveyor in 1739 and as constable in 1743. He sold several pieces of property in Windham in 1744 and had become a separatist, and it was at this time he may have moved to the Canterbury-Plainsfield area. He is also known to have been involved in the Susquehanna Land Company in PA, as were other Binghams and husbands of Binghams. The settlers would go back and forth between CT and PA each spring and fall to plant and harvest. He was a resident of Canterbury, CT on the 1790 US census. The record shows one male over 16, one male under 16, and 2 females.
Gideon died about age eighty before January 1795 when his son and heir, John, deeded Gideon's share in the Susquehanna Company to Benjamin Dorrace of Kingston, Luzerne Co, PA.
Gideon's will was written in 1790 and accepted Feb 10, 1796. In it he left all furniture and one good cow to his wife, Abigail, and divided the rest of his estate in five equal parts for his five children by Abigail. Abigail and son Johnson were joint executors and had several of Gideon's debts to settle. Abigail lived to be about 86.
