About Gideon Johannes Krige
Gideon Johannes Krige was born in Bottelary in 1843, the second son of Jacob and Maria. He married Margaretha Louisa Beyers in 1867
He became the new owner of the historical Oude Libertas vineyard outside Stellenbosch in 1869. In 1870 he founded the Krige GJ Distillers (Wine and Spirit Merchants of Oude Libertas).
He was the member of parliament for Stellenbosh from 1893 to 1910.
