About Gideon Peachey

- Gideon & Nancy started farming on the Joe I. Peachey farm where Jacob was born. After a severe illness, Nancy lost her sense of taste and smell. In a few years, they moved to a farm owned by Joseph G. Peachey where the next five children were born. Their home was furnished with the barest necessities. They traveled mostly by horseback. - Gideon was kicked by a horse in the abdomen and was in ill health a long. David Renno, the hired man did the farming, since he was unable to work. He was in bed most of the summer before he passed away and suffered intense pain most of the summer and passed away in Sept at the age of 38 years. He died of Peritonitis or an abcess of the peritoneum. (A Godly Heritage p. 68) - Six weeks after Gideon died, Nancy fell and broke her leg: in February her baby Gideon died; the following October while boiling apple butter the bottom fell out of a crock and scaled her leg and foot. - In the spring of 1886 she moved to Kansas with her family. At first the crops seemed promising but after a few discouraging years they returned to Big Valley.* Reference: RootsWeb's WorldConnect - SmartCopy: Aug 14 2017, 1:33:58 UTC
