Gilbert J. Martin, 87, of St Petersburg, FL, passed away Saturday October 22, 2011 at North Side Hospital. He was born on December 7, 1923 in Van Buren, ME, son of the late Baptist and Marie (Cyr) Martin of Howland, ME. He served in the 28th Division Pennsylvania Army National Guard during WWII, fought at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded and later received the Purple Heart. He was a former resident of Braddock Heights, MD. Gil, an avid runner was frequently seen running the hills and roads around the Middletown area. Gilbert completed the JFK 50 mile ultra-marathon five times and participated in a variety of marathons and other running competitions in and out of Maryland. He was a member of the National Ski Patrol, enjoyed cross-country and down hill skiing, road cycling, and was a wonderful ballroom dancer. He was employed by C.W. Wright Contractors as a crane operator and mechanic. After retiring, he moved back to Maine to own and operate the Lakeside Campground in Enfield, ME. Gilbert has been a resident of St. Petersburg, Florida for the past twenty years and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Gilbert will be missed by his loving daughters from his former wife, Barbara McCutcheon Martin; Barbara Cavelius and her husband George of Elkridge, MD, Patricia Lingg and her husband Greg, of Middletown, MD and Michele Weeks and her husband Ken of Draper, Utah, his grandchildren, Katherine Lingg, Benjamin Lingg, Joshua Weeks and Christian Weeks, his brothers, Raymond Martin and his wife Connie of Lincoln, ME, and Robert Martin and his wife Dorothy of East Hartford, CT, his sister Joann Dumont of Howland, ME; and many nieces and nephews. Thank you to the Bay Pines V.A. Hospital for the years of wonderful care given to him. Gilbert's family would like to express their gratitude to Jacquelyn Smith his loving and devoted companion for the last fifteen years of his life. Arthur Martin, 85, of New Britain, widower of Rose (Geragosian) Martin who died June 12, 2011, passed away Monday (August 8, 2011) at Hartford Hospital. Born in Stockholm, Maine, he was a longtime New Britain resident. Arthur Served with the US Army during World War II and worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Southington for over 30 years. Surviving are three brothers, Gilbert Martin of St. Petersburg, FL, Robert Martin and his wife Dorothy of East Hartford, and Raymond Martin and his wife Connie of Lincoln, ME, two sisters, Mildred Daigle of Somers, and Joanne Dumont and her husband Ovid of Howland, ME; several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Rose, Arthur was predeceased by five brothers, Wilfred, Armand, Alcid, Emery and Gilman Martin, and two sisters, Rena Castonguay and Ernestine Martin.
