Ran showbiz ad agency, worked with Gene Wilder

Gilbert Pearlman, who had a varied career in showbiz that included running an ad agency with entertainment-industry clients and producing a film, died Nov. 9 in Beverly Hills. He was 82.

Pearlman was the co-founder with the writer Horton Foote of the theater department at the HB (Herbert Berghoff) Acting Studios in New York. He worked on marketing campaigns with Walt Disney and personally with Stanley Kubrick for “Dr. Strangelove.”

He owned his own advertising agency, Pearlman and Rowe, whose clients included NBC News, pubcaster WNET New York and the New York Philharmonic.

Pearlman also worked in film and television. He was the producer, with Paul Roebling, of the 1972 film “Tomorrow,” starring Robert Duvall; Foote adapted his own play and a story by William Faulkner. With his brother in-law, actor Gene Wilder, Pearlman penned A&E’s 1999 telepics “Murder in a Small Town” and “The Lady in Question,” which starred Wilder.

Pearlman is survived by his wife of 60 years, Corinne, and two sons, Steven Pearlman and Jordan Walker-Pearlman, a film director.
