Gilbert Lathom de Scarisbrick

The earliest family member from which all relationships are certain is Gilbert de Scarisbrick (d. 1359). This Gilbert de Scarisbrick (d. 1238), believed to be his gg-grandfather, was granted land in Scarisbrick from his brother, Simon de Grubhead. From this land grant, Gilbert was given the toponym "de Scarisbrick.' His heir was Walter de Scarisbrick, who died in 1260.

Walter de Scarisbrick's heir is believed to be Henry de Scarisbrick, who had two sons and a daughter. His son Gilbert had a son, also named Gilbert, who married Joan de Kirby, daughter of Sir John de Kirby, in 1328. Gilbert, husband of Joan, is the one who died in 1359.
