Her father was Franz Schirmer from Mainz. Gertrude's marriage record has "Margaretha Cahellen" as her mother, but this is most likely wrong. The catholic church records of Mainz have only one Gertrude Schirmer who was born in the 1780ies and her mother was Rosina Pretz.

Gertrude was married to Sebastian Reinhardt in Alzenau on 8 Oct 1815.

The family immigrated from Alzenau, Aschaffenburg, Bayern, Germany via Baltimore, MD in December 1836.

The couple had 7 children of whom 3 died in early childhood. Three of the children emigrated with their parents: Valentin, Peter and Katharina.
