About Gladys Frances Belford



Gladys was born in 1894. She passed away in 1974. Gladys was educated by Tutors and Governesses at Giro Station. She attended Barrington Public School and passed her entrance examination toTeacher's College in Sydney, She taught in Sydney for a short periodand was then appointed to Kew followed by an appointment to Comboyne.It was here that she met Francis Thomas Belford and on being marriedat Gloucester they went to live at Wingham where the home in which they lived was burned down. The family moved to Taree and Gladys later became Librarian at the Taree School of Arts. This was in 1941. She was a Charter Member of the Taree Quota Club and a member of the TareeArts Council for a number of years.

Her religion was presbyterian. She was trained at Hereford House, Glebe - a short course training college. At Comboyne the school principal was Mr J E Marley. Her card with the Education Department appeared to have been lost or misplaced but was found in 1972. She was also a pupil/teacher at Barrington. Photo of Barrington attached.
