About Godfrey de Boulogne

Geoffrey de Boulogne is commonly accepted as a son of Eustace II, Comte de Boulogne (c. 1020 - c. 1087). Geoffrey's maternity is unclear, with suggestion that he was / is the son of Comte Eustace's first wife, Princess Godgifu of England. Sources are unclear whether Godgifu lived circa 1010 - 1047 or 1004 - 1055. Godgifu / Goda was / is the daughter of Ethelred the Unready / King of England (c. 968 - 1016) and Emma of Normandy (c. 985 - 1052) and the sister of Edward the Confessor / King of England (c. 1004 - 1066). It is much better documented that Geoffrey married Beatrix de Mandeville and had issue.

Geoffrey de Boulogne is easily confused with his half brother, Godfroi / Godfrey de Bouillon, Duke of Lower Lorraine and Advocate of the Holy Sepulchre (1060 - 1100), who never married nor produced any known offspring!!
