About Gordon Boyack
Gordon was born in Pretoria and went to Arcadia Primary School and then on to Pretoria Boys High and matriculated at the Pretoria Technical College in 1940.
At 17 he jointed the SA Corp of Signals, 178824 was his force number, in the Second World War and was sent to North Africa. He was taken prisoner at Tobruk and was a prisoner of war in Italy and Germany for 3 years. He escaped and made his way to England where he stayed with family until returning to SA in 1946. He took an engineering course at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.
He joined the SABC as a Technician and married Dorothy Mathews in 1948.
He worked in Pretoria in a number of different positions and retired from Ovland Developments in 1981 and moved to Westville Durban in 1986 to be near his only daughter and family,
He passed away on the 24th June 1996 from a heart attack after suffering from emphysema for many years. The emphysema is thought to have been caused by the conditions in the desert during the war.
