Grace P. Gainer, 95, a resident of Parsons, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24 at the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center.

She was born Aug. 10, 1913, at Parsons, a daughter of the late Lloyd W. Shaffer and Annie S. Nestor Shaffer.

On March 10, 1932, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Braxton C. Gainer who preceded her in death on February 23, 1964.

She is survived by one son, Joseph Gainer and wife Bonnie of Parsons and two brothers, Roy Shaffer and wife Ellen and Guy Shaffer and wife Helen, all of Ohio; two grandchildren, Michael Steven Gainer and Cherry of Sunset Beach, N.C. and Tammy Lothes and husband Anthony of Elkins; two great grandchildren, Ryan Price and wife Jaime of Elkins, Alegra Brady and husband Shawn of Belington; and three great-great grandchildren, Katelyn Morgan Price, Samantha Joellen Price and Hailee Morgan Brady.

Preceding her in death were four brothers, Howard, Ray, Marvin and Claude W. Shaffer and three sisters, Hazel Phillips, Mearl Shaffer Johnson and Colleen Shaffer Parks.

Mrs. Gainer had worked at Dorman Wool Milling at Parsons, at the Tucker County Health Department and for Stevens Florist prior to her retirement.

She was one of the Cookie Ladies, who raised money for flood control projects in Parsons and for the Veteran's Memorial in Parsons.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Parsons.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27 at the First United Methodist Church of Parsons.

Rev. Jeff Anderson officiated, and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery.

The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins was in charge of the arrangements for Grace P. Gainer.
