"The earliest ricordanze to survive in the original belong to Guasparre di Niccodemo (1442-1501), Tommaso's nephew, who eventually inherited the magnificent palace and assumed control of his uncle's bank and silk firm. Brought up in Venice, Guasparre moved to Florence shortly before the death of Tommaso in 1472 and quickly accustomed himself to a luxurious standard of living. His ricordanze depict, often in intimate detail, the domestic preoccupations of a family on the brink of economic ruin. As conditions steadily worsened in Florence, Guasparre proved unable to preserve the resources his uncle had amassed and ultimately dissolved the bank."
