Ellis Island Immigration Records from Norway Oct 29 1896

My maternal great grandmother. Gudrun emigrated from Bergen, Norway, ( she was born in Namsos, Norway 1881 ) She came in 1896 to Ellis Island, New York. SHE CAME TO AMERICA, TO ELLIS ISLAND, NEW YORK, TO BE A GOVERNESS FOR THE FAMILY OF THE BROTHER OF THE CEO OF THE MORTON SALT COMPANY. She worked in Hyde Park Town, Chicago, Cook, Illinois from 1896-1900. She married Edward Francis Linderman on September 11, 1902 in Winona, Minnesota. Edy called her Gud. They had four children together: Harry "Billy" William, Gladys Serene, Irene Mary, and Evelyn "Eppie" Frances Linderman. All children were baptized as Lutheran. Harry & Gladys were baptized in Winona, Minnesota. Irene & Evelyn were baptized in the St.Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, at 2025 Jackson Street, in Dubuque, Iowa. Edy, Gud, and (mother-in-law) Mary Linderman all resided together at 705 W. Third Street, Dubuque, Iowa until her death in 1924. Gudrun had Gall Bladder surgery, and died when a blood clot went to her brain. It was in the days before they started using elastic stockings to prevent blood clots. My Great Grandfather, Edward Francis "Edy" Linderman never remarried and continued to grieve her loss until the day he died in 1968. According to my mother, he did have a red-headed girlfriend, but he would not remarry. He wanted to be there for his children. Aunt Gladys moved in with him in 1941 when she seperated from her husband. She took care of her father, E.F. Linderman up until his death in 1968. His Mother, Mary Linderman, died one month later in June 1968. What a tragedy!

MY MATERNAL GREAT GRANDFATHER, GUDRUN IVARA LUND LINDERMAN EMIGRATED IN 1896, TO ELLIS ISLAND, NEW YORK, NEW YORK AS A NANNY/GOVERNESS TO HYDE PARK TOWN, CHICAGO, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS. 1900 CENSUS SHOWS GUDRUN WORKING FOR THE GLENN & IDA TRAER FAMILY. ED CALLED HER GUD, AND SHE CALLED HIM EDDIE. THEY WERE VERY MUCH IN LOVE. AUNT GLADYS LINDERMAN NELSON, EPPIE LINDERMAN AYALA, AND ARTURO AYALA WENT TO NORWAY ON VACATION IN 1994, AND MET SOME OF OUR "LUND" RELATIVES RESIDING THERE. THE "LUND" SURNAME IS NORWEGIAN. THE NORWEGIANS USUALLY DERIVED THEIR NAMES FROM THE FAMILY FARM.
