About Guernie C Rose

Suffering from a gash over his right eye and a three-inch fracture of the left rear of the skull, Gurnie C. Rose, 59, well known Whiteley Township farmer, died at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 15, in Greene County Memorial Hospital an hour and a half after he was found unconscious and bleeding to death in his home about one mile west of Kirby on the Claughton road.

Suspicion that Rose might have been victim of foul play was practically discarded by police and the coroner's office after a day-long investigation which indicated that he had probably fallen, striking his head against the baseboard in a corner of the kitchen. Sheriff Emil W. Fox, coroner Charles E. Haines and state police, however, were still investigating last night.

Rose, who lived alone, was found lying unconscious on the kitchen floor in a pool of blod which had gushed from a cut above his right eye and from a wound starting above his left ear and extending to the rear of his head. Blood smears in the living room and elsewhere in the house indicated that Mr. Rose had moved about after sustaining his injuries, but there was no evidence of there having been a struggle in the house.

Mr. Rose who was a life-long Greene County resident, was born on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1891 in Perry Township, a son of Hudson and Cassie Lemley Rose. He was a member of the Claughton Chapel Methodist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Shirley Mae, Mary Ellen and Lora Belle who reside in Columbus, O. with their mother, the former Maude Isiminger; three sisters, Mrs. Morris (Viona) Fox, Waynesburg R. D. 2; Mrs. Thomas (Verda) Corwin, Waynesburg, and Mrs. Stanford (Ida) Mooney, Waynesburg R. D. 3.
