About Guilliam Varick
" (November) 21st (1776) Colonel Peter T. Curtenius, son of a former Dutch Reformed minister at Hackensack and Schraalenburgh, now commisary general of the Continental army, spent the day trying to conceal Continental property that the army could not take on its retreat. He took two large barrels of goods to Mr.John Varick 's store and asked Mrs. Varick to conceal a hundred soldiers' shirts in the Varick house; he got Guilliam Varick, the gunmaker, to bury some gun parts and sent thirt-fivve hundred pounds of lead bullets to Henry Bogert at Steenrapie, above the New Bridge.
