About Gustav Reiswig
Gus was married to Agnes Heinrichs on September 21, 1924 at Cimarron, Kansas in the brides parents yard in a tent by Rev. Jacob Enns. After their marriage they moved to Gray, Oklahoma, where they rented a farm from Uncle George Litke. On July 5, 1925 Gus was baptized and became a member of the Balko Mennonite Brethren Church.
In 1934 the family moved to Turpin, Oklahoma, where they rented land for seven years. Gus farmed wheat and maze for the livestock and pigs. In August, 1942 the family moved to Reedley, California to be near Grandmother Seibel who had moved in 1938. During the War tires were rationed but God saw that they made it safely to California. They arrived in Reedley on the last day of August, 1942. Gus worked for the Del Monte cannery in Kingsburg. He also did carpenter work for the Reedley Lumber Company and several packing houses.
Upon retirement he moved to Kingsburg where he built their first new home. He loved to make things out of wood. He made rocking horses for every grandchild that he could.
Just before Christmas, 1972, he complained of not feeling well. A blockage in his stomach was found during a exploratory surgery. He died of a heart attack on January 19, 1973 at 6:55pm in the Kingsburg Hospital. He is buried in the Reedley Cemetery.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: May 16 2024, 19:45:37 UTC
