Prominent Kiowa Indian Dies Here

Guy Ware, 56, Served in Fort Sill Cavalry, Military Rites Held

Guy Ware, one of the most outstanding members of the Kiowa Indian Tribe, died at his home four miles southwest of Anadarko Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock.

He was born in Indian Territory and had spent his life in this community. As a young man he enlisted in Company L of the famous Seventh cavalry and from September 14, 1891, until his discharge, September 14, 1894, was stationed at Fort Sill.

He won distinction as a sharp shooter and holds a certificate signed by Major General Nelson A. Miles (later promoted to Lieutenant General Nelson A. Miles (USA)) for winning a contest of rifle shooting. Mr. Ware was a devout Christian, a member of the Ware chapel named in his honor. He was about 65 years of age.

The funeral services were conducted this afternoon at Ware chapel on Hog Creek. The speakers were Delos Lone Wolf, A. Martinez, James Ottipody and Ted Ware. The latter is a nephew of the deceased. He was buried in the Ware cemetery near chapel. He was given a military funeral and a number from Fort Sill were in attendance.

Mr. Ware is survived by his wife, three sons, Allen, Presley and Glen Shay Ware all of whom reside in this community. six daughters, Mrs Emma Eagleheart, Alice Koamilty, May Anaty, Gertrude and Agnes Toyekauyah and Daisy Ware.

The funeral services were in charge of the Anadarko Funeral home.

Mr. Ware was an uncle of Lewis and Henry Ware of this city and a brother of Lynn Ware of the Red Stone Mission neighborhood.
