BIOGRAPHY Gysbert de Veer was born on 14 May 1556 in Schiedam, in Holland. He belonged to the Mennonite religion, also known as Anabaptists and Doopsgezinden, a branch of the religion became the Amish. During the 16th century they were relentlessly persecuted, persecution was still going on until 1710 in various parts of Switzerland.

Gysbert and his wife Deborah Claesdochter Harnasveger moved to Danzig (now Gdansk) where Gysbert died on 17 May 1615. Deborah died there on 14 August 1625.

Also known as Gysbert Jansz DeVeer. He was a merchant. His children were Nicolaes, Abraham, Anneke, Hans, Cornelius, Jacob, Gysbert, Harman.
