About Haiim Yeshua Yeshua Bajaio, Sr.

Descendent of the most prominent Jewish Portuguese family in Hebron-Palestine. The Bajaio family members arrived to hebron at the year 1675 after leaving the city of Beja- Porugal where they lived as forced christians after the expulsion and deportation of the jews in 1498 from Portugal . They returned proudly to their faith in Hebron.

Hebron is the first City in Israel-Cnaan where the father of the Jewish Nation Abraham, made his first ever Property-Purchase in that land of Israel - ,Me'arat Ha'Machpela".

Once arriving from Porugal, they served as Leaders for the community and it's amabassadors in Europe.

Rabbi Haiim Yehoshua Bajaio who had been the the first activist Zionist in the Land of Israel-(Palestine) at the begining of the 19th century and the first to purchase land for the Jews in Palestine.

In the Year 1807 he purchased 5 dunams of land which were located right in front of The Jewish neighberhood and of where today's Green's Market of hebron was located. That area is currently repossesed by the renwed Jewish Comuinity.

In the Year 1811 he purchased the 800 dunams of Tel-Rumeida from the hands of the Tamimi family-The most prominent Muslim family in Hebron.The land he purchased is the Original location of the Ancient city of Hebron upon the hill ovelooking the Macpela Vaadi-Vally where today'd hebron is located. That is the place where King David had his first seven years of ruling as King over the Kinkdom of Judea . He also bought the Grave of Yishai, Father of King David of Israel.

Rabbi Haiim Yehosua Bajaio Served as the Great Leader for about 30 years from 1795-1830.

Rabbi Haiim Yeshuah bajaio made his fortune in the Family's business dealing with Egypt and otherOverseas Countries.

In his days it was established that the position of  Shochet and Mohel for the Sepharadi-Spanish community of hebron-Israel was to be hereditary position as well as the grat rabbi of one of the Five Yeshiva school. These positions were kept for the bajaio family only. 

The "Kushans"- Bills of Sale,were passed on from father to son within the Bajaio family. Last of the bajaio Descendents to keep and hold this deed was Rabbi Haiim Bajaio (1875-1960)-Last Leader and Chief Rabbi for the Hebron Jewish Comunity in the 20th. century.
