About Hannah Hawkes

JOSEPH AND HANNAH. Joseph seems to have been the one on whom James had to lean in his declining days. James, Jr., whom he had declared to be 'the staff of his life' had suicided at Salem; Deliverance was the favorite daughter, her husband, Shadrack Thayer was the counsellor for the family. Two years before his death, (1674) James gave Joseph one half of his house 2 in Boston. Shortly after, Joseph married Hannah — She evidently was a favorite in the memory of her descendants as Hannah was an oft repeated name from that time.

The children of Joseph and Hannah were: —

1 James, b. 1674 — 5 ; d. in Weston, 4 March. 1756. aged 81 years; m. Sarah Treadway.

2 Joseph, b. 18 March, 1678: m, Dec. 25, 1701, Margaret Childs,

3. Hannah, b. 29 March, 1681 ; m. 25 Dec, 24 1702, Thomas Sanderson.

The last record found in Boston of Joseph, son of James is in 1677 : Mass. Archives says: "Joseph Priest of Watertown, appears as claimant for land 'in the right of his father,' Joseph Priest of": Boston, in division of land, Narraganset, No. 2, now Westminster, Mass." This shows where Joseph, son of James of Weymouth went to, on leaving Boston.
