About Hannah Hills

Retrieved from on 8/4/2008

Hannah reportedly died very shortly after the birth of her daughter in 1745.

Phineas Jones made a map of the Small Point area in 1731 and identified "Hall's

House" in the Sprague Field. Too, regarding Small Point, references are made

of ancient burial grounds. In the

by Rev. Henry O. Thayer (Roll 526, microfilm, Maine State Archives) the effort

is made to write a history of not only Woolwich, but also of the general area,

including an effort at Small Point. Two histories of the area refer to the

ancient burial grounds (and two maps put it on the opposite side of the Sprague

River). Thayer states more--that it is very ancient and probably contained 200

graves. Someone counted 147 of those graves; Thayer, in about 1914, went to

count and only got 72-74. Apparently, from another source, stones were placed

to mark the Head and Feet, which might account for a double count. Thayer noted

that he believes these were the burial grounds for those in the area for the

years 1735 to 1780. If such is true, Hannah, the wife of Ebenezer, is buried
