Samuel's will was written 20 October 1742, and he likely died shortly afterwards.  His will was probated 28 Dec 1742; inventory appraised at £722: 6: 9.

  • - Wife Hannah received house and estate to reside;
  • - Sons Simeon and Levi were given the real estate holdings to share, plus a gun each.
  •  - Levi also received his Mare and an equal share with his mother- David received a gun plus 5 shillings.
  • - His daughters received 5 shillings each as well: Mary, Hannah, Lydia; all were married by this time.
  • - As Abigail was not mentioned, it is likely that she had died before this date. [SIC: Abigail is not in this family]
  • - Caleb, Joseph & Samuel received 5 shillings each.

notes

Martin (TAG, 73:172-174) makes the point that there is often confusion about the wives of two Samuel Hutchins, this Hannah's husband and a Samuel from Kittery Maine. He makes clear that this is the Hannah who married the local Samuel Hutchins and also that there is, to date, no evidence whatsoever that Hannah, wife of the Kittery Samuel Hutchins, had the surname Merrill.

"The identity of Hannah, wife of Samuel Hutchins ([son of] Enoch) of Kittery remains unknown."

A "ghost." That Sarah March married Humphrey Dearing.

Samuel Hutchins is thought to have married a Sarah March, but this may be the wife of 'the other' Samuel Hutchins in Maine.  He is shown to have married Hannah MERRILL on January 4, 1715/16, as seen in the Newburyport, Massachusetts, marriage register.

That marriage registration belongs to the "other" Samuel Hutchins, as demonstrated by The American Genealogist, vol. 72, pgs. 173-75 cited in http://www.familyrecord.net/getperson.php?personID=I3841&tree=CorlissOrdway.

"His wife who was Sarah March died June 9, 1747, and Mr. Whitefield attended her funeral"

Perhaps a transcription error. Hannah, widow Hutchins, died that date and place.
