Hannah Ruggles

Ann Bright married May 26, 1670, Capt. Samuel Ruggles of Roxbury, born 1629 at Nasing, Essex Co., England. whose 1st wife Hannah Fowle was only dau. of George Fowle. By his first wife he had 8 children see below:

1. Thomas Ruggles b. Mar 10, 1670-1; grad. Harvard Coll. 1690; minister of Guilford, CT where he died June 1, 1728. He m. (1) Sarah ____; and he m. (2) June 1, 1708, Mary Hubbard of Boston who died Dec.17, 1742. Children:

  1. Sarah Ruggles b. Mar 27, 1699; died Mar 23, 1722, unmarried.

  2. Anna Ruggles b. May 3, 1701; d. May 19, 1760; m. Nov 3, 1724, Charles Caldwell.

  3. Mary Ruggles b. Oct 8, 1702; died young.

  4. Thomas Ruggles b. Nov 27, 1704; grad. Yale Coll. 1723; died Dec. 16, 1794; a clergyman; m. Sept. 25th, 1734, Rebecca, dau. of Rev. John Hart of East Guilford who d. Feb 17, 1760.  Children:

           1. Sarah Ruggles b. July 23, 1735; d. Dec 3, 1807; m. July 12, 1759, Hon. Joseph Pynchon.

           2. Mary Ruggles b. Dec 22, 1737; died Aug 10, 1756.

  5. Rebecca Ruggles b. May 23, 1712; d. June 11, 1713.

6. Nathaniel Ruggles b. May 16, 1713; grad. Yale Coll. 1732; d. Dec 16, 1794; was a physician; m. Dec 8, 1736, Anna Bartlett who died May 15, 1773. Children:

          1. Nathaniel Ruggles b. Oct. 7, 1737; grad. Yale Coll. 1758; died Oct 16, 1793; m. Mar 14, 1765, Elizabeth Dudley of Guilford who d. Nov 10, 1819. Children:

                 1. Sarah Ruggles b. Mar 18, 1766; m. ____ Belden and died June 22, 1802.

                 2. *Elizabeth Ruggles b. June 11, 1768; died Aug 5, 1840; unmarried.

                 3. *Nathaniel Ruggles b. Aug 27, 1770; d. Nov 16, 1840, unmarried. 

             *Elizabeth Ruggles and Nathaniel Ruggles are said to have "lived despised and died unlamented."

                 4. Lucretia Ruggles b. Oct 12, 1772; d. Nov 7, 1809; m. Deacon Peter Spencer.

                 5. Thomas Ruggles b. Aug 17, 1777; grad. Yale Coll. 1805; ordained at Derby, Conn. 1817,  dismissed and silenced 1825. He moved to Wallingford, Conn. where he died 1838 of intemperance and licentiousness. He m. (1) Hannah Sanford of Huntington, Conn. who d. October 1813 and he m. (2) the widow Lucretia Hull of Wallingford. He had one child, Sarah Ruggles b. August, 1820; died 1837. He was wealthy, chiefly by marriage and left no legitimate children.

           2. John Ruggles b. July 24, 1739; d. Feb 10, 1749.

           3. Anne Ruggles b. Aug 11, 1741; d. June 16, 1795; m. Oct 18, 1763, James Stone.

           4. Rebecca Ruggles b. August 1743; m. Oct 18, 1763, David Sanderson.

           5. Thomas Ruggles b. 3rd day of Sept.; died Sept 20th, 1745.

           6. Huldah Ruggles b. Oct 2; died Dec 11, 1746.

           7. Huldah Ruggles (again) b. Oct 5, 1747; d. Aug 6, 1827; m. Roswell Woodward.

           8. Mary Ruggles b. 1749; died.

           9. Mary Ruggles (again) b. 1752; m. May 20, 1783, Timothy Rosseter.

          10. Sarah Ruggles b. Feb 16, 1755; died young.

          11. Sarah Ruggles (again) b. Mar, 1760; died young.

   7. Elizabeth Ruggles b. 1715; d. Sept 9, 1769; m. Nov 1, 1734, Jehoshaphat Starr.

2. Anna Ruggles b. Sept. 30, 1672.
