To N. America with wife and two sons in April 1844. Heart Prairie, Walworth Co., Wisconsin.
A larger group sailed from Skien on the boat “Salvator” and arrived in New York harbour on 4th July 1844. Among them was Hans Arvesen Vale with wife and two sons. They bought 80 acres in Heart Prairie and paid 400 dollars for it. A contemporary letter tells that “One day's pay, for those who worked for money, was 50 cents”.
In the Autumn of that year Arvesen built a log cabin on the property. Many Norwegians stayed there temporarily, until they built their own property or moved on.
In 1847 there were about fifteen or sixteen families from Holden in Telemark living in Heart Prairie, among them Gunnar Halvorsen Vala.
Aaste Isaksdatter (.. .07.1814 - 27.06.1900) g. 15 Oct 1840m. Hans Arvesen Wale (21.09.1812 - 29.12.1873). Begge ligger gravlagt på "Heart Prairie Lutheran Cemetery", Walworth County i Wisconsin.
Barn: 1) Arve Hansen (Også kalt Harvey Arveson 28.05.1841 - 09.05.1925) drev i skobransjen i Heart Prairie. Han ble g. m. Karen Christensdatter Bø (03.06.1844 - 04.01.1905) fra Gjerpen. Begge ligger gravlagt på "Hillside Cemetery", Whitewater i Wisconsin. Arve/Harvey ble gift for annen gang i 1911 med Della Mason.
2) Isach Hansen (19.02.1843 - 22.04.1870). Gravlagt på "Heart Prairie Lutheran Cemetery", Walworth County i Wisconsin.
