About Harke Luce
A Harke Luse was named on a list of men able to bear arms at Scituate, Massachusetts in 1643. Banks suggests that "Harke" might be a copyist's error for "Darke" and that this individual might be a son of Abraham Luce and Cycely Darke. He might then have been a near relative (uncle?) of Henry Luce, ancestor of the American Luces, and to have influenced Henry's move to America. There is no record of his birth at Horton, so if he was born there at all, it would have been in the period 1624-1653, for which there are no records. This would make him 19 or less years of age when he was a Scituate.
